It's common, and it usually isn't a worn part. Sliding door rollers have adjustment screws that set how high the panel rides in the frame, and if those weren't set correctly at installation the door will bind at one end, drag on one side, or sit low enough that the latch doesn't quite meet its keeper. On a house only a few years old that's the first thing to check, because it's an adjustment rather than a replacement — a fraction of the cost of new rollers. Are impact-rated doors harder to repair?+
They're heavier to handle, which is the main practical difference. Laminated impact glass adds substantial weight, so removing the panel from the frame takes two people and a careful lift rather than one person tipping it out.
