What we offer

Smart Lock Installation you can count on

A smart lock is only as good as its setup. We install the hardware and also handle the part that trips most DIY installs up: pairing it to your phone, setting up guest or temporary codes, and connecting it to WiFi, a hub, or a smart home system if you want that. Not every smart lock connects the same way, and picking the wrong connectivity type for how you'll actually use it is the most common regret we hear about from homeowners who bought online without guidance first.

  • Choosing the right connectivity type

Bluetooth-only locks are simpler and don't need WiFi, but you lose remote access when you're not home. WiFi locks (or WiFi-bridge models) let you lock, unlock, and see activity from anywhere, at the cost of needing a strong signal at the door. Z-Wave and Zigbee locks integrate into a smart home hub rather than connecting directly. We'll ask how you actually want to use it before recommending a model.

  • Retrofitting an existing door

Most smart deadbolts are designed to fit standard door prep — but backset, door thickness, and existing strike plate alignment all affect installation. We check compatibility before ordering hardware so you're not stuck with a lock that doesn't fit your door.

  • Guest & temporary access codes

Cleaning services, contractors, family visiting for a weekend — smart locks let you issue codes that work only for a set date range, or codes tied to a specific person you can revoke individually without changing everyone else's access.

  • Smart home integration

Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings all support different lock models to different degrees. We set up the integration during installation, not as a separate visit — including testing that automations (like auto-lock at night) actually work before we leave.

Frequently asked questions

Which smart lock brand do you recommend?+

It depends on what you want it to do. For straightforward keypad convenience without WiFi, Kwikset Halo Touch or a standard Schlage Encode work well. For full remote access and app control, Schlage Encode Plus (built-in WiFi) or Yale Assure with a WiFi bridge are strong options. For homes already using a smart home hub, a Z-Wave or Zigbee-compatible lock integrates more cleanly than a standalone WiFi model. We'll ask about your existing devices and how you actually plan to use the lock before recommending a specific model rather than defaulting to whatever's most expensive.

Will a smart lock fit my existing door?+

Most standard residential doors accept smart deadbolts without modification, since they're built to fit the same backset and bore hole sizes as traditional deadbolts. The most common fit issues are with older doors that have non-standard prep, very thick or very thin doors outside typical range, or doors where the existing strike plate is misaligned. We check this before you buy hardware when possible, so you're not returning a lock that doesn't fit.

What happens to my smart lock if the power or WiFi goes out?+

Nearly all smart locks include a physical keypad code as a backup that works independent of WiFi — the WiFi connection is only needed for remote access and notifications, not for the lock to function day-to-day. Most also include a physical key override or a 9-volt battery terminal on the outside to jump-start a dead lock battery in an emergency. We test both backup methods with you during installation so you know they work before you need them.
